The parent company of Oxney Green – Iden Pottery – was founded in the late 1950s by Dennis Townsend in the Rye, East Sussex. The studio was highly regarded for traditional, hand painted stoneware, and distinctly British country themes.

To keep up with demand, the offshoot Oxney Green was established in the 1990s, collaborating with potteries in Stoke on Trent.

Steve Duffy was a resident designer and potter working from the Rye Studio, his style heavily inspired by his surroundings and sea-faring heritage. His flambouyant Farmyard Cockerel and Nautical collections quickly became collectible in the US and Japan as well as in the UK.
