Philip Gardiner (1952-2024) was born in London, and studied ceramics at North Staffordshire Polytechnic. In 1971, he moved to Cornwall to run Pentewan Pottery for four years before working as the head thrower for Cooper Pottery in Shropshire. He settled in Mevagissey and opened his pottery studio in 1983. His stoneware functional pieces are glazed to reflect the landscape of the Cornish coast.
