@lindseyhambleton describes the process and inspir @lindseyhambleton describes the process and inspiration for Wanderings: Setting out to walk my local patch on an autumn morning, the tall format of Wanderings was fixed in my mind, the task being to gather the elements of the painting and convey those most strongly retained once back in the studio. The painting captures glimpses of true perspective: stream and birch trees, the distant interlocking pasture. An imagined aerial view of the path cuts through, with the faint lines of the railway bridge, and sky reflected in damp surfaces. Central to the walk is a patch of rosebay willow-herb or fireweed, the remaining leaves a glorious glow in the autumn light. In the studio, the memory of this developed near the centre of the painting as an exaggerated chromatic arc. The site is an edgeland, nature reclaiming industrial rawness and proliferating in woodland and grassland. The shape of the painting captures this sliver of wildness between town edge and railway, overlooked by many but so rich in colour and texture.
